    Snow News February 2018

    WEATHER UPDATE/SCHOOL CLOSURE
    Dear Parent/Carer,
Sadly, the weather conditions continue to cause huge issues today and into tomorrow and the safety of our staff and children needs to be our paramount concern.
Today we are urging any parent who wishes to collect their child early, to do so from 1pm, so that they are able to avoid substantial traffic on the journey home. Please report to Mrs Swift at reception who will collect children and bring them to you. The school site will stay open until 3pm for everyone else.
We have also taken the decision, in light of the past two days and future forecasts, to CLOSE the school tomorrow to ensure the safety of all of our teachers, children and family members. This is an action which will be echoed across many schools in the town and one which I feel is a sensible decision. The reason for making the decision at this stage is to ensure maximum time for parents/carers to construct plans.
Mrs Swift will be in touch next week concerning refunds for clubs and the re-scheduling of movie and munchies.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support over the last few days.
    Kind regards
    Mr N Coster
    Headteacher

Pemberley Academy takes centre stage in promoting community health

    http://www.yourharlow.com/2018/02/23/pemberley-academy-takes-centre-stage-in-promoting-community-health/

RECENTLY, a Harlow primary school opened it’s doors to Heartfulness UK, a non-profit organisation and registered charity who look to promote mediation and stress relief techniques for people to deal with their modern day busy lives.

The sessions, which are completely free of charge, promote strategies for stress reduction and Harlow has now become one of many sites across the country for Heartfulness UK who are hoping to make a difference in the town.

Having started in smaller venues since the new year the organisation has found a home at Pemberley Academy on Hodings Road who are giving over their facilities free of charge for the community to benefit from, the first session drew 15 people most of whom were completely new to the concept of stress reduction and meditation.

Lisa Fish, Deputy Headteacher at Pemberley Academy said “The school became aware that Heartfulness were operating in the town through other local links and when it became clear they needed a bigger venue to reach out to more people in Harlow we were only too happy to accommodate, especially with mental health being such an important topic in society and especially in schools”.

The sessions will be operating weekly at the school from 7pm-8pm every Tuesday and everyone is welcome.

Pemberley Academy nominated for top award

    http://www.yourharlow.com/2018/02/08/pemberley-academy-nominated-for-top-award/

PEMBERLEY Academy has recently been shortlisted by Active Essex for an award given out to a nominated school in the county with the broadest provision for physical activity and sport, called ‘Education champion of the year’.

The school on Hodings Road, which only opened in September 2015, was one of three schools shortlisted in a year which saw the highest number of nominations ever, being selected for the commitment it makes to it’s students in keeping them active.

This includes 22 after schools clubs per week, involvement with schools across the town for sporting competition, recently gained ‘Healthy schools’ status, Saturday and half term sessions and high quality in school PE teaching. All of which has been identified as having a huge impact on the children’s school experience.

PE co-ordinator Mr Steele said: “This is a very proud moment for us because as a small school with limited facilities and resources it’s the effort that our staff make to give the children that extra experience that really counts.

We’re not just about sport, we simply want the children to be active, even as PE coordinator I actually run a chess club, but being healthy isn’t necessarily about running around all day.

“We have a wonderful core offer at Pemberley, one I’m proud to be part of, and this recognition is obviously nice, especially if it makes a difference to the children of our community”
